Budi Utama Siagian, and "Giantamabudi" is the nickname signed on his painting. He was born in Kisaran, Indonesia in 1965. His early education is at senior high school in Kisaran. Then continued his studies in Indonesia Islam University, Yogyakarta in 1985 majoring in "textile" until he obtained a Bachelor's degree.
After staying in Yogyakarta in 1986 and 1987, he started painting automatically without prior knowledge. He returned to Medan and chose painting as a career in 1998.
